News anchor demands salary during live broadcast

A TV news anchor has complained about not getting paid during live broadcast and demanded payment of his monthly salary.

According to a foreign news agency, a news presenter in the African city of Zambia suddenly complained about the non-payment of his and his colleagues’ salaries during news reading on KBN News channel, which caused a tumult in the organisation.

Kabinda Kalimina started reading the news as usual and in the meanwhile suddenly mentioned the non-payment of salary. He said he and his colleagues were working without pay. Immediately after the anchor’s complaint, the broadcast was cut off and the producer aired trailers on TV.

“We are human beings. We have to get paid. Unfortunately, on KBN we have not been paid,” he said.

The TV channel said that the journalist was intoxicated and an investigation was underway into how he was allowed to read the news while he was drunk.

On the flip side, Kabinda Kalimina wrote on his Facebook account, “Yes I did that on live TV. Just because most journalists are scared to speak out doesn’t mean journalists shouldn’t speak out.”
