New policy for verification of CNICs being introduced: interior minister
ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed on Monday said a new policy of verification, renewal and correction was being introduced in the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) for the computerized national identity cards (CNICs).
“Action has been taken against 39 NADRA officials in Karachi for their involvement in issuance of fake identity cards,” he said while addressing a news conference in Islamabad. He said the same action would be initiated in other cities too.
The interior minister said India and Israel had started a hybrid war against Pakistan, and they wanted to put a question mark on the data of the NADRA.
He said that he had directed the new Chairman NADRA to issue the new policy within the 14 days.
Sheikh Rasheed said there were thousands of foreigners who were living in Pakistan over the last many years without renewal of visa. He asked those foreigners to leave Pakistan before August 14 or get their visas renewed through online application. He said no fine will be imposed on them if they applied for renewal of the visa.
“The cyber-crime wing of FIA will also be developed on modern lines to improve its performance and efficiency,” he said.
He said that the fencing along the Afghan border would be completed by August 14, whilst 46 to 48 percent fencing on the border with Iran had been completed.
The interior minister asked the opposition parties to refrain from issuing irresponsible and non-parliamentary statements. He asked Nawaz Sharif to return to Pakistan and face corruption cases against him.
