LONDON: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif along sons, relatives and workers of Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) offered funeral prayer of his mother, Begum Shamim Akhtar, on Friday at Regent Park mosque in London.
Only 30 people were allowed to attend the funeral prayer.
The dead body was sent to Heathrow airport from where it would be sent to Pakistan through British Airways. Sources said that Asma Nawaz and Zikria, Hasan Nawaz’s son, will accompany the body which will reach Pakistan tomorrow morning (on Nov 28).
On the other hand, Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly Shahbaz Sharif and his son Hamza Shahbaz have been released on five-day parole to attend the funeral of Begum Shamim Akhtar, after Punjab Home Department issued a notification.
Begum Shamim Akhtar died in London on Nov 22. She was ill for a long time. In Pakistan, Begum Shamim Akhtar’s funeral prayers will be offered at Sharif Medical City. She will be buried in Lahore.
According to the family sources, Begum Shamim Akhtar had Alzheimer’s disease and a severe chest infection.
