Nawaz Sharif likely to return to Pakistan to lead election campaign

PML-N supremo and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif is set to return to Pakistan to lead the party’s election campaign amid PTI’s pressure for early elections, according to sources.
In a new development, Nawaz Sharif has instructed the party to schedule by-elections in 90 days as per constitution if PTI chief Imran Khan dissolves the Punjab and KP assemblies.
The election campaign for by-elections will lead by PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif, sources added.
According to the sources, the dates have not been decided yet but Nawaz Sharif could return to Pakistan at any time after consultation with his lawyers.
PML-N will also file a petition against his conviction in the concerned court.
Nawaz Sharif will no longer keep himself away from politics as he is ready to lead the party and supporters in the next general elections.
Sources furthered that the Supreme Court’s verdict in former PTI leader Faisal Vawda’s disqualification case will ease the hurdles in abolishing the lifetime disqualification of PML-N supremo.
Maryam Nawaz is likely to stay in London if Nawaz Sharif will return to Pakistan, sources said without mentioning any reason.
Notably, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was sentenced to jail for 10 years after he was found guilty in a corruption reference in 2018 by an accountability court.
The deposed PM was later released on health grounds in November 2019 and allowed to seek treatment in the UK; he has not returned to his home country since then.
