Parliament house sealed after 30 employees test positive for coronavirus
Islamabad: Parliament house building has been sealed after 30 staffers have tested positive for coronavirus, with the building likely to remain closed till November 9.
Meetings that were scheduled have been cancelled on an emergency basis and new dates have been announced for that.
Senate Chairperson Sadiq Sanjrani, Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaisar, and several other officials self-isolated themselves due to possible exposure and were working from home. Whereas the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has taken the responsibility for disinfecting the building.
Despite several instructions from the government to strictly implement the coronavirus standard operation procedures (SOPs), last week people violated the rules during different sittings of the Senate and the National Assembly.
This is not the first time that the Parliament House has been sealed, earlier it was closed when some staff members fell prey to the potentially deadly virus.
NA Speaker Asad Qaisar and his family had tested positive for the coronavirus e in March when the country was undergoing the first wave of the pandemic but they recovered in less than a month.
Deputy chairperson of the Senate Saleem Mandviwala contracted the virus in September and he also recovered within 15 days.
