Nation observes 145th birth anniversary of Allama Iqbal today

The 145th birth anniversary of philosopher and poet Allama Mohammad Iqbal is being observed on Wednesday (today) across country with national zeal and fervour.
The day dawned with special prayers in mosques for progress and prosperity of Pakistan.
A change of guard ceremony was held at Mazar-e-Iqbal in Lahore on Wednesday.
A smartly turned out contingent of Pakistan Navy assumed responsibility of guard from Punjab Rangers.
Pakistan Navy’s Station Commander Commodore Sajid Hussain was Chief Guest on the occasion, he offered fateha and laid floral wreath at the mausoleum.
Who was Iqbal?
Allama Iqbal was born on 9 November 1877 in Sialkot, his parents named him Muhammad Iqbal.
Dr Allama Iqbal spent 3 years in Javed Manzil, he received his primary education in Sialkot and passed matriculation from Mission High School and FA from Murray College Sialkot.
His passion for poetry was also born here and his early teacher Maulvi Mir Hassan played a major role in development of this passion.
After completing FA he went to Lahore for higher education and graduated from Government College Lahore.
In 1905, Allama Iqbal went to England for higher education and obtained a law degree, from here he moved to Germany where he obtained a PhD in philosophy from the University of Munich.
Along with being a lawyer, he also wrote poetry and actively participated in political movements, while in 1922 he was given the title of ‘Sir’ by the then government.
He was a pioneer of ‘Independence movement’ and participated in several political movements while he was also elected as the President of the All India Muslim League.
His famous Allahabad Presidential address in 1930 is historic, in this Sermon he presented the concept of ‘Pakistan’.
Pakistan came into being due to his teachings and tireless efforts of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, but he died on 21st April 1938 before the independence of Pakistan, however, as a great poet and philosopher, the nation will always be grateful to him.
