KARACHI: The nation celebrates the 73rd Independence Day across the country on Wednesday with traditional zeal and fervor and a renewed pledge to make the country a true Islamic welfare state.
The day of 14th August dawned with 31 gun salute in the Federal Capital and 21 gun salute in the provincial capitals.
Change of guard ceremony will be held at Mazar e Quaid in Karachi. Cadets of Pakistan Navy will take charge of their duties at the mausoleum. National flag is hoisting at all important public and private buildings. Television, radio and other media will broadcast special programmes.

Flag hoisting ceremonies will also be held at all provincial capitals and big cities in the country.
Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan had said the government would observe Independence Day as Kashmir Solidarity Day and 15th of this month as Black Day.

She had appealed to the nation to actively participate in the rallies and other programmes on Wednesday and Thursday to demonstrate solidarity with the Kashmiris of Indian occupied Kashmir.
Minister for Science and Technology Chaudhry Fawad Hussain had said Pakistan would celebrate 14th August, under the theme ‘Kashmir Banayga Pakistan’ and observe 15th August as Black Day.
“On 15th August, protest demonstrations would be held across the country and major cities of the world to pressurise India to stop atrocities and gross human right violations in occupied valley,” he had said.
