PESHAWAR: The National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) has issued threat alert for political and religious leaders in Peshawar and Quetta.
“The Tehreek e Taliban Pakistan (TTP) can target important political personalities through suicide bombing,” warned the NACTA saying that the large quantity of explosive materials found in Qamar Din Karez area were to be used in terror activities in Pakistan.
The explosives may have been brought from Afghanistan. The banned TTP had hid bags full of explosives in its hideouts.
The NACTA alert has suggested the government to boost security of religious and political gatherings. “The TTP is gearing up to target a high-profile person in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa or Balochistan,” it said.
The counter terrorism authority has sent letters to the chief secretaries of all the provinces, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
“It may be mentioned that on Oct 21 eight IEDs were recovered from Qamar Din Karez, Balochistan. The explosive material was most likely destined for Quetta and KP. Hostile media is already blatantly projecting such a scenario under well-orchestrated propaganda campaign,” the letter read.
