NAB starts inquiry against Former First Lady’s friend Farah Khan

ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Thursday decided to initiate an inquiry against Farah Khan, a close friend of former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s spouse Bushra Bibi, after media reports suggesting massive financial embezzlements.
According to a statement issued by NAB, the inquiry will be conducted on unknown sources of income and money laundering charges. DG NAB Lahore has been directed to take action as per law.
According to the statement, Farah Khan was also accused of having many bank accounts in the name of various businesses. In the last 3 years, Rs847 million has been found in Farah Khan’s account.
The NAB said that the amount was not in accordance with Farah Khan’s profile. The money was deposited in Farah Khan’s personal account and immediately withdrawn. Media reports accused Farah Khan of making assets through illegal means.
The NAB statement stated that Farah Khan’s assets in income tax returns increased dramatically from 2018, during which time Farah Khan visited the United States 9 times and the UAE 6 times.
Imran Khan came to power in the year 2018 and Usman Bazdar became the Chief Minister of Punjab in the same year. Sources said that Farah Khan played an important role in the appointment of Usman Bazdar.
Farah Khan, a friend of former First Lady Bushra Bibi, had left for Dubai earlier this month.
Farah Khan has been the centre of controversy after Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice-President Maryam Nawaz had accused her of being involved in corruption and kickbacks, particularly in transfer and postings of officials in Punjab.
On the other hand, Imran Khan’s close aide Shehbaz Gill had also rejected the allegations, saying the opposition had begun to target Bushra Bibi’s friend after they couldn’t find anything to criticize the former first lady.
