NAB returns without Agha Siraj Durrani’s arrest

According to media reports, a National Accountability Bureau (NAB) team stormed Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani’s residence yesterday to arrest him in assets beyond means case but returned empty-handed after 15 hours.
The group had arrived at the Sindh Assembly speaker’s house after his bail was denied by the Sindh High Court (SHC) in a case involving the acquisition of assets other than recognised sources of income.
The NAB team was denied entry into the residence by the security guards stationed there, who stated that Siraj Durrani was not at home and that they could not allow them to enter owing to the presence of his female family members.
After a long wait, the team returned without apprehending the accused.
Yesterday, the Sindh High Court (SHC) had announced, an already secured verdict on the bail pleas of 18 accused, including Agha Siraj, in the assets beyond means case.
The bail plea of the accused was re-heard on the orders of the Supreme Court. A special bench of the Sindh High Court comprising Justice Nadeem Akhtar and Justice Iqbal Kalhoro had reserved its verdict on the bail plea.
The High Court rejected the bail pleas of eight accused, including Sindh Assembly Speaker Durrani, while the bail pleas of Durrani’s wife and sons were granted.
It should be mentioned that in the reference filed by NAB, besides Agha Siraj Durrani, his wife, and son Shahbaz Durrani, other persons including Tufail Ahmed, Metha Khan, Aslam Pervez Langah, Zulfiqar Dahir, Gulzar Ahmed, and others have been named.
