MQM and PTI boycott Senate polls in Sindh Assembly on Vawda’s seat
Karachi: Voting has begun in the Sindh Assembly for the vacant seat of disqualified Senator Faisal Vawda of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). ECP had declared Faisal Vawda ineligible as lawmaker for life.
Voting for the Senate seat in the Sindh Assembly started at 9 am and will continue till 4 pm.
Sindh Health Minister Dr. Azra Pechuho cast her first vote while other members of the Assembly are arriving in the Assembly to cast their votes.
The hall of Sindh Assembly has been made a polling station for the election while the Provincial Election Commissioner is performing the duties of Returning Officer.
PPP’s Nisar Khorro and PTI’s Agha Arsalan are contesting from Sindh for the Senate seat. However, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the ruling coalition at the Center, MQM have announced boycott from the elections.
The total number of members of Sindh Assembly is 168 out of which 99 members belong to PPP while PTI has 30 members in SA and MQM has 21 members.
In the Sindh Assembly, GDA has 14 members, Tehreek-e-Labaik Pakistan has 3 and MMA has 1 member.
Election Commission had disqualified Senator Faisal Vawda of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for concealing dual citizenship and announced re-election to his vacant seat.
