Mourning processions to be carried out amid tight security today
Mourning processions and gatherings are being organized across the country on 9th Muharram (today) to pay homage to the great sacrifices of the grandson of the Holy Prophet (SAWW), Imam Hussain (RA), his family members and companions.
The main procession of 9th Muharram in Karachi will start from Nishtar Park, while Allama Shahenshah Hussain Naqvi will address the Central Majlis before the procession.
Afterward, the main procession will leave from Nishtar Park and pass through its designated routes and end at Hussainiya Iranians Imambargah in Kharadar. The participants of the procession will offer noon prayers in front of Imambargah Ali Raza on MA Jinnah Road.
Strict security arrangements have been made on the occasion of the main procession. The procession corridor and the surrounding streets and roads have been sealed with containers, while police and rangers have also been deployed for security of the procession. Law enforcers will monitor the procession through Closed-Circuit TV cameras as well.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government had requested the center to suspend mobile phone services in 13 districts on Muharram 9 and 10. Following which, the federal government had approved the request for suspension of mobile phone services at 1400 places of 13 districts of the province and the concerned mobile companies had been directed to shut down mobile phone services in those areas.
Mobile phone services will be closed from 6 am to 11 pm on 9th Muharram and 10th Muharram.
The Home Department had recommended suspension of mobile phone services in Peshawar, Haripur, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Kohat, Kurram, DI Khan, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Nowshera and Mardan.
On the other hand, Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed had said suspension of mobile phone services would be carried out in different parts of the country as per the need.
