Mounted police unit introduced in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: In a bid to revive old practice, mounted police unit has been introduced in Peshawar’s cantonment area.
Police mounted on horses have started patrolling the Saddar market, said SSP Operation Yasir Afridi adding that such patrolling had been a part of the tradition in the past. He said it would make people realize that police were within their approach.
Yasir Afridi said that initially two troops comprising eight horses each were posted to perform duties to maintain law and order situation.
“The horse riders will patrol at sensitive locations including near Governor House, Chief Minister House, IG House, Mall Road, CPO and Police Line, while a special course of action has been devised for monitoring the mounted police units,” he said.
