Motorways across Pakistan shut for traffic amid coronavirus fears

All motorways throughout the country have been closed for traffic, announced Motorway police on Thursday.

Exceptions for private cars with no more than two people in them will be made. Travelers are required to have evidence that they have an imminent excuse for their travel, according to the police.

They added that only tankers supplying oil and vehicles carrying critical food products would be permitted to ply on the roads.

The decision has been taken as a precautionary measure against the nation-wide novel coronavirus outbreak.

To date, there have been 1,091 confirmed cases of the virus identified. Eight people have died.
