LONDON: A coronavirus affectee mother has given birth to the youngest coronavirus victim in the world.
The mother was brought to the hospital after she felt pneumonia symptoms. She was tested positive for the highly contagious disease shortly after the birth in London’s North Middlesex Hospital. Doctors are trying to figure out if the neonate contracted the disease in the womb or during the birth process.
The death toll in the United Kingdom has soared to 11, while 800 others have been tested positive for the virus.
The baby is quite healthy in comparison with mother’s health condition. The infant is being treated at the same hospital while the mother has been brought to an infections specialist.
Daily Mail has quoted a source as saying that the staff which came in contact with them has been advised to self-isolate.
The fear of the infection has swept through the UK as train stations and public places present a deserted look during the rush hour.
On Mar 13, the World Health Organization had warned that Europe had become the “epicenter” of the global coronavirus pandemic, reporting more regular cases than China did at the height of its epidemic.
“Europe has now become the epicentre of the pandemic,” WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus had said in a virtual press conference.
