A Lahore court has scheduled an indictment hearing for actor Saba Qamar and singer Bilal Saeed for filming and producing a video film at the Wazir Khan Mosque. Bilal Saeed’s case was heard by a Judicial Magistrate. The musician appeared in court with his attorney, Barrister Hamid Leghari. Saba Qamar, who was dressed in a burqa, was also present. The prosecutor submitted the challan to the court.
The case was adjourned until October 14, with the judge directing that copies of the challan be sent to the accused at the next hearing. The artists were charged with violating the sanctity of the mosque while filming the music video.
The court had already issued arrest warrants in the case for Saba Qamar and Bilal Saeed. However, during the most recent hearing, the court revoked the arrest warrants and ordered the collecting of Rs 30,000 security bonds, as well as ordering both accused to appear in person. It may be noted that in August of last year, a video clip of Saeed’s song Qabool Hai went viral on social media, infringing on the sanctity of the ancient Wazir Khan Mosque in Lahore.
The video was extensively criticised on social media, especially in religious and social circles. On the complaint of Farhat Manzoor Khan, a case was lodged against the actress and singer at the Akbari police station in Lahore for disrespecting the sanctity of the Wazir Khan Mosque.
