Met Department issues heatwave alert for Karachi
KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a heatwave alert for Karachi for next six to eight days.
Met Office informed that high pressure area formed over central Asia is inducing wind flow from North to Northwest over Sindh including Karachi.
“Under its influence heatwave condition is likely to prevail over Karachi during next 6-8 days with day temperatures rising to 40-42 ºC. Wind flow mainly from North to Northwest during the period,” said the spokesperson of the met department.
He said the real feel will be greater than the actual temperature and the heat will peak from 11am to 4pm.
Hospitals and civic administrations have been informed about the situation and the health centres have been asked to designate a ward to deal with heatwave affected patients.
The met department has asked people to cover their heads when out of house, try to avoid direct sunlight, stay hydrated and keep children indoors.
