Messi leaves Barcelona due to financial obstacles
The Spanish football club FC Barcelona has confirmed that, despite having reached an agreement with Lionel Messi, it has not been possible to formalize it due to economic obstacles.
Barça will have to face its worst nightmare. Play without Messi. The Argentine player with whom he has won more than 30 titles, will not continue at the club. The negotiations for its continuity were broken this Thursday, in a last meeting between the board of directors and the representative and father of the footballer, Jorge Messi.
There was a verbal agreement since July, but Joan Laporta, president of Barça, has broken it. He has no money to fulfill it. The economic crisis of the team is now joined by the march of its great legend, which closes the golden era of Barça and leaves a void so difficult to cover. His destiny seems to be Paris-Saint-Germain.
During the negotiation, apparently, Messi has been adding sports demands such as the hiring of Argentine Cristiano Romero. Despite their lack of financial muscle, Barça sent Atalanta an offer of 40 million, plus ten in variables, to hire the central defender.
But Tottenham have taken the lead. The club, almost bankrupt, cannot meet all the requests of its star and has had to resign from him.
Both parties deeply regret that the wishes of both the player and the club cannot be fulfilled. The board of directors concluded in a statement, “Messi is leaving Barça, which will have to rebuild without his corner piece since the forward debuted in 2004 at the age of 16, and La Liga may lose its great media beacon if the Argentine signs for PSG.”
Barcelona said, “Despite club and player reaching an agreement and their clear intention to sign a new contract today, this cannot happen because of financial and structural obstacles. As a result of this situation, Messi shall not be staying on at FC Barcelona. Both parties deeply regret that the wishes of the player and the club will ultimately not be fulfilled.”
Messi has been the club’s all-time top scorer with 672 goals in 778 football games.
