Many feared trapped in Haripur landslide incident

HARIPUR: Many people are feared to be trapped in landslide incident in Haripur’s tehsil Khanpur on Tuesday.

The incident took place when labourers, working on an illegal crushing plant near a mountain, exploded a big explosive device. The crushing plants lay mines and conduct blasting in the mountain to get crushed stones for construction.

Rescue work has begun to recover bodies and the people stuck under the rubble in Khui Mera area within the jurisdiction of Khanpur police station. Multiple vehicles have also been stuck. Residents of the area said that about 200-250 people work on the plant at a time.

Influential owners of the plant have reportedly now allowed media persons and law enforcers to reach at the site of the incident.

Hum News has quoted an eyewitness as saying that two dead bodies were shifted to an undisclosed location from there in a vehicle.

Two year ago, the Supreme Court had banned crushing plants from functioning in Margalla Hills, so they shifted their machineries to Attock and Khanpur.
