Man killed over blasphemy allegations in Jhang

A man was axed to death over blasphemy allegations while attending a festival in Jhang district, local media reported on Friday.
According to police, the victim was identified as Taqi Shah who belonged to the Shia community.
It was reported that Taqi and his friend Hasnain Shah had gone to attend a local festival on Wednesday when they were attacked by a man with an axe.
As the assailant axed him, Taqi, who was on a motorcycle, fell on the ground and died. However, his friend Hasnain Shah remained safe in the attack.
According to media reports, a quarrel broke out between the suspect and the victim as a debate on sectarian matter got intensified while playing volleyball some days ago.
Police booked three suspects on murder charges with only one identified suspect who was arrested on Wednesday and presented before the magistrate.
The suspect later accused Taqi of committing blasphemy against the companions of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and axed him to death as he accordingly confessed to the authorities.
Police said that the suspect had been sent to jail on 14-day judicial remand.
