BAHAWALPUR: Punjab Police have arrested a suspect for harassing a woman after her brother-in-law posted details of the incident on his Twitter account.
“A case has been registered in this regard and the suspect has been arrested. Further legal action is being taken,” said Punjab Police in response to Sahibzada Ali’s thread of Tweets, which was shared more than 1600 times.
Sahibzada Ali had expressed resentment over police’s inaction on his complaint and tacit consent of the wrongdoing of the bus conductor.
“My sister-in-law is employed at Danish School in Hasilpur. She goes to Hasilpur daily by bus from Chishtian. For the last 15 days, the conductor of Niazi Express Bus No. 120 Bahawalnagar to Bahawalpur has been harassing her,” he said.
He said the culprit would sometimes seek her number and harass her. The people of Bahawalnagar bus stop (adda) were repeatedly informed that the man should be asked not to that, but he did not refrain from harassing again.
“My sister-in-law called us today on 01/09/2021 saying that he is harassing and insulting me again,” he said.
Sahibzada said they approached police at Chishtian police station but the bus staff misbehaved with them and the conductor even thrashed his brother. During the scuffle, the conductor snatched the mobile phone from the brother and got inside the bus and drove away, he complained.
He appeal Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar and Inspector General Punjab Police to take notice of the incident.
Focal Person to CM Punjab Azhar Mashwani also interfered and directed police to help the victim and arrest the suspect.
On August 31, police had arrested a suspect for trying to rape a six years old child in Charsadda.
SHO Umerzai police station Kashif Khan had arrested the suspect within few hours of the attempted rape incident. According to reports, when the suspect tried to sexually abuse the child, he had started screaming which foiled the bid.
Police had said the suspect had confessed to committing the crime during interrogation saying that he was trying to rape the minor. A case had been registered against him, while investigation was underway from him.
