Man arrested as preemptive measure to protect Mufti Taqi Usmani from knife attack
KARACHI: Police on Thursday arrested a man as a preemptive measure to protect Mufti Taqi Usmani from knife attack.
Senior Superintendent Police Korangi Shah Jahan Khan said the suspect tried to get closer to the famous Islamic scholar in a bid to attack him at Darul Uloom Karachi in Korangi.
“A dagger was recovered from his possession when a security guard searched the suspect upon his desire to meet Mufti Taqi Usmani in person. Guards immediately caught the suspect and handed him over to police,” he said.
Shah Jahan said that investigation from the suspect was underway. He said the suspect claimed that he wanted to discuss some domestic issues with Mufti Taqi Usmani after Fajr prayers.
While, police believe that the suspect might have come to attack the celebrated scholar.
In an audio message, Mufti Taqi Usmani also confirmed that the suspect who was carrying a knife had been arrested. He said that the man drew the dagger from his pocket when he tried to get closer to him, however he could not confirm it whether the suspect wanted to attack him or what were his motives.
