The 20th death anniversary of the melodious queen and legend, Noor Jehan, is being observed on Wednesday (today). She has been an asset for the nation and her demise was considered to be a major loss for the music industry.
Noor Jehan was born in Kasur, Punjab on 21st September 1926 in a musician family. She has recorded over 10,000 songs in different languages of Pakistan and India and became the first female director of Pakistan’s film industry.
Moreover, Noor was awarded with Pride of Performance in 1965, Tamgha-e-Imtiaz in 1965 and Sitara-e-Imtiaz in 1996.
On 23 December 2000 (night of 27 Ramadan), Jehan died of cardiac arrest. Her funeral took place at Jamia Masjid Sultan, Karachi and was attended by over 400,000 people.
