Mahathir Mohammad, now aged 94, believed that the assassination of Soleimani would not be good for world affairs. He worried that in more ways than he could imagine, one U.S act would give birth to terrorism.
In addition, Mahathir was afraid that the US was acting as if it controlled the world. He said, for example, that if he said something that the head of a country did not appreciate, he would also be killed, just as Qassem Soleimani. Mahathir had also previously shown support for Kashmir.

Since coming into power, Mahathir Mohammad has been trying to put the relationship between Malaysia and Iran right. In a recent conference in Malaysia, he also hosted Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.
