“Make mental health and well-being for all a global priority”

The world observes Mental Health Day every year on 10 October to raise awareness of mental health around the globe, its significance in life, and the reasons why people should never ignore their mental health problems.
According to WHO, “The COVID-19 pandemic has created a global crisis for mental health, fueling short- and long-term stresses and undermining the mental health of millions. Estimates put the rise in both anxiety and depressive disorders at more than 25% during the first year of the pandemic. At the same time, mental health services have been severely disrupted and the treatment gap for mental health conditions has widened”.
This year, the theme for World Mental Health Day is “Make mental health and well-being for all a global priority” and has been set by the World Federation for Mental Health.
Additionally, a campaign centred on the theme will be launched by WHO in association with partners. This will be an opportunity for people with mental health issues, advocates, governments, employers, workers, and other stakeholders to join together to recognise progress in this area and to speak out about what needs to be done to guarantee this year’s topic for everyone.
Best ways to improve mental health and well-being
The issues related to mental health are very serious. One should not take it lightly or avoid it. Here are some easy ways to improve mental health and well-being.
Take a journal, and write down your thoughts and feelings throughout the day. Examine the notes you’ve made after a week and then a month. You’ll soon become aware of the graph of your ideas and understand where it’s going. Every strange situation hides kindness in it. Discovering that would prioritise your mental wellness!
Get out of closed walls. A walk to the nearest park or spending time enjoying sunrise and sunsets will put your mind at ease.
Spend time assisting others and exploring new hobbies. Plan a hike, embark on an adventure, and look into hobbies that help you feel happy again.
Being physically active benefits the brain just as much as the body. Regular physical activity or exercise can significantly improve your mental and emotional well-being, reduce stress, enhance memory, and enhance sleep. Sleep is very important, especially if you’re having mental health problems.
Talk to someone. One of the best ways to relax your nervous system and relieve stress is to talk about your worries, difficulties, or problems with a caring person.
Find the meaning or purpose of your life. Finding meaning in your day is important for optimal mental health.
Your mental health plays a pivotal role in your quality of life. Ask for help from professionals if needed. Don’t be ashamed of the way you feel.
