A major power breakdown was reported from Karachi as multiple areas of the port city were out of electricity, confirmed K-Electric spokesperson Imran Rana.

Apart from this, power outages also reported from interior Sindh as Rahim Yar Khan, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Sibi, Dadu, Rajanpur, Ghotki were out of electricity.

According to the statement issued by the Ministry of Energy, several southern power plants are tripping in stages due to an accidental fault in the southern transmission system of the country, which is hindering the transmission of electricity in the southern part of the country.

The statement added that the Ministry of Energy is diligently investigating the cause of the outage and the power system will be fully restored as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, WAPDA sources attributed the breakdown to a technical fault in the Guddu Thermal Power House, saying that due to a technical fault, 6 units which were generating 832 MW of electricity tripped.
