Main accused in Qandeel Baloch Murder case acquitted
Lahore: Lahore High Court Multan Bench acquitted Wasim, the main accused in Qandeel Baloch murder case.
Justice Sohail Nasir acquitted the accused for deviating from the basis of consent and statements of witnesses. Accused Wasim was sentenced to life imprisonment by Multan Model Court on September 27, 2019. In the Multan Bench of the High Court, the mother of the accused submitted affidavit of consent.
Lawyer for the petitioner told the court that the Sessions Court had ignored the consent form. The accused and the victim’s father have died. Witnesses in the case also recanted their statements in the trial court.
The accused has strangled his sister model Qandeel Baloch to death in the name of honor. Accused Wasim has filed an appeal in the court for quashing the sentence. Five accused including two brothers of the victim have been acquitted. Prominent religious scholar Mufti Abdul Qawi was among those acquitted.
