Khewra Salt Mines is salt mine, Pakistan’s largest mine, and the worlds oldest salt mine. The mine is famous for producing its famous Pink Himalayan Salt.
These mines attract around 250,000 visitors an year. Despite being famous for its salt and heritage, these mines are a fantastic place to visit.
The Khewra Salt Mines are located about 160 kilometers south of Islamabad, at the foothills of the Salt Range to the north of the Jhelum city of Pind Dadan Khan.
In 2018, the salt production was estimated at 389,134 tonnes per annum with 98 percent purity. Besides the revenue the production brings in, a handsome amount is earned via the 40,000-plus tourists which visit the site each month.
