London mayor Sadiq Khan performs Umrah to end 2022 on ‘blessed’ note

United Kingdom’s (UK) first Muslim mayor Sadiq Khan performed Umrah in his bid to end the year on a “blessed” note.
Sadiq Khan shared photos of himself on his official Twitter account visiting two of Islam’s holiest sites in the world, Makkah and Madinah.
Taking to Twitter, London Mayor wrote: “During this special time for so many families, I am grateful to have been able to visit the holy cities of Mecca and Medina to undertake the Umrah pilgrimage with my family.”
He concluded his tweet by writing about a “wonderful” start to 2023.
Khan, who became the first Muslim to head a major Western capital after his victory in 2016, won 55.2 per cent of the votes compared to 44.8pc for Shaun Bailey, the candidate from the ruling Conservative party.
Sadiq Khan was elected mayor of London for a second term in May 2021.
The United Kingdom’s first Muslim mayor was honoured with Sitara-i-Pakistan on the occasion of 75th Independence Day of Pakistan.
