LHC reinstates Parvez Elahi as Punjab CM

The Lahore High Court on Friday reinstated PML-Q leader Chaudhry Parvez Elahi as Punjab Chief Minister after he assured the court that he would not dissolve the provincial assembly.
The Lahore High Court’s 5-member larger bench headed by Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh including Justice Chaudhry Muhammad Iqbal, Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh, Justice Asim Hafeez and Justice Muzamil Akhtar Shabir heard the case.
The LHC wanted an undertaking from Parvez Elahi that he would not dissolve the assembly after assuming the office, it could deepen the ongoing political turmoil in the province.
Elahi submitted a written undertaking that if he and provincial cabinet would reinstate, he will not send a summary of the dissolution of the Punjab assembly to the governor until the next hearing.
In the court, the Governor Punjab’s lawyer said that Pervez Elahi should be ordered to take the vote of confidence in three to four days, then the governor will withdraw the order of de-notification.
The Lahore High Court also asked the Punjab Governor’s lawyer to give a written undertaking that the Governor will withdraw the notification.
Following the Elahi’s undertaking, the LHC suspended the Punjab Governor’s order to de-notify Chief Minister Parvez Elahi and the provincial cabinet. The court has issued notices to Governor Punjab, Attorney General and others.
