LHC orders to release model in murder case after 7 years

Lahore: The Lahore High Court has ordered the release of model Azma Rao after seven years in a murder case.
A two-member bench headed by Justice Shahram Sarwar delivered the verdict.
On Monday, April 4, the court quashed the death sentence of model Azma Rao.
The trial court had sentenced fellow model Abira to death for murder. A two-member bench acquitted model Azma Rao on the basis of lack of evidence.
Model Azma Rao had challenged the death sentence in the High Court.
The challan of model’s murder case was submitted by Sherakot police of Lahore in 2015.
With the help of CCTV footage of the incident, the police had arrested the main accused Azma alias Tooba. Later, two more persons were also arrested on the identification of the accused.
Police had named three accused Azma, Hakeem Zeeshan and Farooq-ur-Rehman in the case.
The court recorded the testimony of 34 witnesses in the case, which lasted for seven years.
The three suspects were arrested on the basis of CCTV footages and mobile data in connection with Abira’s murder.
