LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday granted bail to Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Assembly Hamza Shahbaz Ramzan Sugar Mills reference.
Nevertheless, Hamza Shahbaz will not be released until he gets bail in money laundering case as well. The hearing for the other case is scheduled for Feb 11.
The opposition leader and President Pakistan Muslim League-N Shehbaz Sharif, the then provincial chief minister, are accused of using money from national exchequer to make a drain in Chiniot to facilitate the sugar mill.
Counsel of the PML-N leader said none of the evidence provided in the case could suffice to hold his client accountable. He said the said drain was constructed in public interest. He said Shehbaz Sharif was already bailed in the case.
The two-member bench comprising Justice Syed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi and Justice Chaudhry Abdul Aziz were hearing the case.
