The Lahore High Court has quashed the JIT set up against the sugar mills of Jahangir Tareen and the Sharif family.
A two-member bench of the Lahore High Court ruled on the petitions of Jahangir Tareen and Sharif family sugar mills. The court quashed the notices of JIT and SECP in the FIA inquiry case against the sugar mills of Jahangir Tareen and Sharif family.
The court ruled that the FIA has the power to inquire, but it remains to be seen under what laws and under what circumstances the inquiry can be conducted. The SECP has failed to play its role in accordance with the law. ۔
The court said that the authority of the FIA would be clarified in a detailed decision.
The Sugar Mills of Jahangir Tareen and Sharif family had challenged the FIA inquiry in the High Court and the petitioners were of the view that the FIA did not have the authority to inquire into such matters.
