ISLAMABAD: Minister for Human Rights Shireen Mazari on Thursday said the legislation was being brought against corporal punishment in schools.

“Bill against corporal punishment will be tabled in the National Assembly,” the human rights minister said talking to the media persons in Islamabad.

She pointed out there was already ban on corporal punishment in the schools of federal capital.

Shireen Mazari said corporal punishment was also contrary to Islamic injunctions.

In his remarks on the occasion, pop singer and social worker Shahzad Roy, who has filed a petition against corporal punishment in the Islamabad High Court, said there was need to change mindset over the issue.

He was appreciative of the government for bringing legislation against corporal punishment.
