LONDON: The dissident political leaders from the Indian state of Manipur have declared independence from India and formed a government-in-exile in the United Kingdom.

Addressing a press conference in London, representatives of Manipur’s King Leishemba Sanajaoba also announced formation of Manipur State Council, Radio Pakistan reported.

Chief Minister Yamben Biren and Minister of External Affairs and Defence Narengbam Samarjit of the Manipur State Council said they believe that it was the right time to make public the Independent Government of Manipur before the international community and seek recognition.

They also urged all the governments of the sovereign states and members of the United Nations for recognition of the de-jure and exile government of the Manipur from today onwards.

The leaders of Manipur State Council produced a document showing that Maharaja of Manipur had authorised them to solve the political problems of the State of Manipur.

They said Narendra Modi’s government was intolerant and believed in physical annihilation of small nations and communities for the sake of Hindutva supremacy and therefore it was not safe for them to continue operating from India.

The leaders-in-exile said over 1,528 cases of the extra judicial killings were pending before the India to court.

The Manipur leaders would make an appeal to Queen Elizabeth II and after getting an order from the Privy Council they would move the U.N. for recognition, The Hindu reported.

On Sept 22, a mammoth crowd of Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs, Christians and other communities had gathered in Houston outside NRG Arena, where Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was sharing stage with US President Donald Trump.

They had said the Indian prime minister was responsible for Guajarat pogrom and violence in Kashmir.

The protestors had also launched anti-Modi campaign on social media using the hashtag #AdiosModi. They had asked Narendra Modi to leave America and lift the curfew in the Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir. They carried banners and chanted slogans, ‘Modi, Modi you can’t hide, you committed genocide’, ‘Who is the Killer: Modi’, ‘Hinduism is real, Hindutva is fake’, ‘Modi is face of Indian terrorism’ and others.
