KARACHI: An alleged Daesh terrorist has been arrested during a joint operation by Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of Karachi Police and Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) on Saturday.
Weapons and ammunition, used in terror activities, have been recovered from the suspect identified as Sikandar Khan, son of Kamil Jan, in Karachi.
The suspect revealed during interrogation that he had been associated with the Tehreek e Taliban Pakistan before 2019. He was sent to jail in 2013 after he was arrested in Karachi for involvement in heinous terrorist activities. Later, he was transferred to Mardan jail.
After completing his jail term in Mardan, Sikandar started collecting extortion money for Daesh in 2019 from Karachi. He also admitted to demanding money from doctor Siraj within limits of PIB police station and upon refusal, the suspect opened fire on his clinic and attacked it with hand grenade. A case was registered against him for this attack.
Another case was registered with police against the suspect for demanding extortion from a man namely Abdul Haleem, within limits of Korangi Industrial Area police station.
The arrested suspect has confessed to his involvement in a dozen of heinous crimes including extortion activities across the megalopolis.
He is being interrogated and raids are being carried out to arrest his accomplices. While, weapons and ammunition recovered from the suspect have been sent for forensic analysis.
