Lahore police chief apologises over his remarks about motorway rape victim
LAHORE: Lahore police chief has apologised over his remarks about motorway rape case victim.
“I seek apology from the victim woman and all segments of society over my remarks,” said Capital City Police Officer Omar Sheikh in a statement on Monday.
In an interview with a local news channel, Omar Shaikh had said that a woman should not go out at night without a male relative. He hadi said that he would not have allowed even his sister to go out without a male relative.
He had said that the woman should have taken the GT road rather than the deserted road.
“If a woman does not have a brother, husband, nephew or other male relative to go with her, then she should not go for shopping in Lahore all alone. If she still wants to go, then she should go during day time,” he had said.
