It’s not easy being a working mother, especially if she ends up bearing the entire financial burden for the child’s upbringing. Rukhsana, 52, from Karachi is forced to leave home to earn living for her children after husband refused to support in household responsibilities.
Aunty Rukhsana does seasonal businesses i.e. Independence Day is celebrated like Eid in our country, for which people buy clothes, badges and flags related to Independence Day, right now Rukhsana is doing business of flags and badges. Besides, she earns money by selling towels or cleaning cars on signals.
She said, “Main bheek nahi mangti, mehnat sa kamati hun,” adding that, “Khuda bhooka Uthata zaroor hai lekn bhooka Sulata nahi.”
Rukhsana’s husband does not support her in household responsibilities for which she runs a business by taking loans from relatives or neighbours and repay them after selling the items.
“Main na sara saman 130,000 ka khareeda hai, ab nuksan hoa hai ya faida ye to saman bikny ka bad he maloom hona hai,” she said.
One of Rukhsana’s three sons was killed for resisting the robbery, while she herself was burnt and injured in an accident.
“Forty percent of my body was burnt, resulting in the flesh of my hands being completely dissolved, the flesh was removed from my feet to fill the spaces of my hand,” Rukhsana added.
Aunty Rukhsana says that she always tells people to pray for her, that “God will keep her dependent on Him and not on any human being.”
“May God save my country from evil eyes and may my country be a place of happiness,” she prayed for Pakistan.
