PML-N’s Khawaja Asif released on bail
LAHORE: After the Lahore High Court approved bail of Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) leader Khawaja Asif in assets beyond means and money laundering case, he has been released by the jail authorities.
The jail authorities handed over the notification in this regard to Khawaja Asif at the hospital. Sources said that he would go to Sialkot and then Islamabad from Lahore.
The PML-N leader had requested the court to release him in the said case.
He was arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in December 2020. The NAB authorities had argued that they gave the suspect multiple chances but he could not satisfy them.
They said that he held Iqama from 2004 to 2008 and received 136 million rupees during this time as a consultant legal adviser in Saudi Arabia. So, he was directed to submit details including his salary and his application for the job to the company. The NAB said that Asif was also asked to submit the iqama agreement to its office, however he failed to comply with the order.
The NAB alleged that a bank’s peon had transferred more than 28 million rupees in his account, while his nephew deposited Rs20 million in his account. Two other workers also reportedly transferred Rs35 million into Asif’s account.
