Karachi welcomes monsoon but fears woes

The City of Lights (Karachi) is once again ready for its yearly spell of monsoon as Karachiites woke up on Monday morning to witness the first rain shower after facing hot weather for days.
It is now a pleasant view for the citizens but their sudden moment of happiness may be overcome by the thoughts of upcoming miseries that monsoon rains bring with them.
Climate change is not be blamed less for monsoon woes as long as Karachi’s civic issues remain unresolved. The city still remember the devastation of last year’s spell which left no socio-economic class behind from suffering the consequences.

More than 40 people died in different incidents as the city broke its 36-year record.
The Metrological Department had earlier predicted the first spell of the monsoon from July 15 – 17.
Karachi has welcomed its first monsoon shower with open arms, but also with overwhelming thoughts of flooded roads, continuous power outages, poor drainage system, inefficient solid waste management, and electrocution amid festive season of Eid-ul-Azha.
