Karachi to receive fourth monsoon spell from August 6

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) Tuesday informed that rain-thunderstorms with few moderate/heavy falls are expected in the Karachi division from August 6 to August 9.

Monsoon winds are likely to enter eastern Sindh from the night of August 4 or the morning of August 5, PMD said.

It was further informed that due to this weather system, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Hyderabad, Matiari, Thatta, Sajawal, Tando Mohammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Shaheed Benazirabad, Sanghar, Khairpur, Sukkur, Larkana, Ghotki, Kashmore. , Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Dadu, Jamshoro and Qamber Shahdad are likely to receive thundershowers during August 5 to 9.

The advisory further mentioned that heavy falls may generate water-logging in low-lying areas of Karachi, Badin, Thatta, Sujawal, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allayar, and Dadu Jamshoro, and Kambar Shahdadkot districts during the forecast period.

The risk of urban flooding has also been shown in other urban areas of Sindh including Karachi.

In a statement issued by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), instructions have been issued to the Deputy Commissioners and concerned authorities to reduce the possible damage caused by the rains.

PDMA directed authorities to ensure the availability of water extraction machines and personnel during rains.

Similarly, a helpline should also be created to meet the needs of the affected people on a priority basis.
