Karachi policemen suspended after ‘fake’ encounter in Korangi

Karachi Policemen including Korangi SHO Siraj Khattak were suspended over an alleged fake police encounter in the Korangi Industrial Area.

On Monday night, a young man named Shehzad Chandiyo was shot dead by the police in an encounter exchanging fire.

However, Shehzad’s family claims that he was innocent and was not connected or included in any crime.

The deceased’s family members and neighbors protested against his killing outside the city’s Press Club on Tuesday

The Landhi SP stated that the suspended policemen will be inquired, and they are currently investigating if Shehzad was innocent or wanted in any case.

In a similar incident, the SP Shah Jahan Shah and SHO Shahid Memon of Larkana was suspended due to increasing crime rate in the city.

According to the sources, before their suspension, Rs150 million were stolen in their area.

Even people staged a protest on Thursday against the rise in crimes in the vicinity of Larkana.

Robberies and muggings have increased in Naudero, which is the constituency of PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Faryal Talpur, according to the protesters.

Earlier in 2020, at least 70 police officers including four deputy superintendent police (DSPs) and several inspector were suspended for alleged involvement in corrupt practices.

District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammed Iqbal said on directive of Inspector General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police, action had been taken on big scale in police department.

Moreover, he confirmed that 70 police officials including four DSPs and several inspectors had been removed from their posts as investigation into malpractice began.

“Those who have been removed were posted in Landi Kotal, Bara and Tehsil Jamrood,” he said.

Muhammed Iqbal said it was the first time that action was being taken against police’s malpractice in district Khyber.
