KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Saturday directed the Local Bodies department to design a PC-I of cleaning the drains.
Chairing meeting of the Provincial Coordination and Implementation Committee in Karachi, Murad Ali Shah urged need to clean 41 drains of the Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) and 514 drains of District Municipal Corporations (DMCs).
The Karachi commissioner briefed the meeting that the Local Government Department will spend 119 million rupees from its own resources to clean these drains.
In the last monsoon season, sewage-mixed water had entered houses of citizens as stormwater drains overflew due to rain in Karachi.
The last spell of monsoon rain with thunderstorm in the megalopolis overflew drains and nullahs. Valuable items were spoiled after sewage water entered residential houses in Surjani Town, Yousuf Goth, Baldia Town, North Karachi and their adjacent areas.
The affectees were rescued with the help of boats in Yousuf Goth, Surjani Town. Rain water is still accumulated in Nagan Chowrangi, New Karachi, Surjani Town, FB Area.
