On Wednesday, Karachi Fire Department’s firefighters announced a strike against the department. They have not specified when the strike will start.

They staged sit-ins outside the Central Fire Station and chanted slogans. Their biggest demand a 15 percent increase in salaries.

“A 15% increase in our salaries was announced in 2018,” said one of the protesters.

“It still has not been done and we have not received our increased salaries yet,” he further said.

The issuance of an allowance of fire risk in another major demand of the firefighters. They have claimed that for the last 18 months, they have not received any allowances.

“We have not gotten new uniforms or any other security equipment for five years now,” another firefighter said.

The firefighters have refused to work unless their demands are approved.

“We will not go to any factory, warehouse, market or shopping mall to put out fires,” he added
