Kanwal Ahmed decides to close “Soul Sisters Pakistan” for a while: Here’s Why
Kanwal Ahmed, the founder of the famous only-women group on Facebook “Soul Sisters Pakistan”, has decided to close the group for a while after facing unwanted hate online.
The online bashing started when a popular meme page posted a joke about how Soul Sisters Pakistan advise women to get divorced over little things like their “husband snoring”.
As this post circulated online, Kanwal Ahmed shared a bunch of “vile comments” from several men about her personal life and other women of Soul Sisters.
Soon after that, Kanwal Ahmed announced that she is closing her group for a bit. She wrote on Facebook, “being trolled is one thing but there are groups of men now trying to make lies about my personal life and while I don’t want to respond to them, I do want to take some time off for my own mental health and well-being”.
Kanwal said she feels proud of her Soul Sisters community and will be back after a short break.
In a detailed post on her Instagram account, Kanwal wrote, “In a country where communities like SSP are only virtual shelters for hundreds of thousands of vulnerable women seeking support and even just a few words of sympathy- these jokes are dangerous. They are uncalled for”.
