K-Electric announces not to carry extra loadshedding this summer

KARACHI: K-Electric Chief Executive Officer Moonis Alvi has promised that no extra loadshedding will be carried out this summer across the megalopolis.

Addressing a press conference, Moonis Alvi said that the KE would ensure that electricity supply was not suspended during sehr and iftar timings in Ramadan. He also promised that power cut, on an average, would not exceed seven hours in Karachi.

Power load will be managed by cutting supply to 25 percent of the feeders only, he maintained. He claimed that the power distribution company’s transmission system had been upgraded and it could withstand up to 400mm rain now.

The KE chief said 70 percent work on the Bin Qasim Power Plant III and the construction of 220 KW DA double circuit in Jamshoro had been completed.

“The KE is ready to meet the electricity demand during summer, which is expected to grow up to 3,400 mw this season,” he said.

KE distribution officer Amir Zia claimed that the company would be able to supply uninterrupted power supply to 93 percent of its feeders by 2023.
