ISLAMABAD: Additional Attorney General Aamir Rehman will represent the government in the Justice Qazi Faez Isa case after newly appointed Attorney General of Pakistan Khalid Javed Khan on Monday recused himself from representing the government in the reference.
Khalid Javed Khan confirmed that the government had recommended AAG Aamir Rehman to represent it in the presidential reference in the apex court.
“I cannot represent the federation. I have already stated my opinion regarding the Justice Isa reference,” the AGP said in a statement.
Khalid Javed was appointed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government as the new Attorney General after Anwar Mansoor Khan resigned on Feb 20. The Pakistan Bar Council had demanded Anwar Khan’s resignation over his remarks against the top court judges.
In his resignation, Anwar Mansoor had said that the PBC through a press release on Feb 19 demanded from him to resign forthwith from the office of the AGP.
“Being a life member of Karachi Bar Association, Sindh Bar Association and the Supreme Court Bar Association, and having previously served as the Advocate-General Sindh, the Attorney General for Pakistan a judge of the High Court of Sindh, I stand with my brothers and colleagues at the bar and I wish to reaffirm my faith in the highest principles of integrity and professional excellence that the PBC has always stood for,” he had said in his resignation.
