Joaquin Phoenix wins Best Actor award for Joker at Oscars 2020

Joaquin Phoenix won Best Actor in a Leading Role award for his performance in Todd Phillips’ DC movie Joker at the 92nd Academy Awards.
Phoenix is the second actor to win the Best Actor award for his portrayal of the DC villain, after Heath Ledger who won the award for his performance in 2008’s The Dark Knight.

The 45-year-old actor gave a spine-chilling yet intense performance in Joker as Arthur Fleck in a story that witnessed his character progress from a professional clown struck down with his bad luck, into a bloodthirsty madman.
He was anticipated to win the Best Actor award among other nominees, including Antonio Banderas (Pain and Glory), Leonardo DiCaprio (Once Upon A Time in Hollywood), Adam Driver (Marriage Story), and Jonathan Pryce (The Two Popes).

Joaquin Phoenix also took home the Academy Award for Best Score by Hildur Guðnadóttir. He gave a passionate acceptance speech where he spoke about how he wishes to see people grow together peacefully.
