JKT Group endorses Hamza Shahbaz for Punjab Chief Minister: Ishaq Dar

Ishaq Dar, a senior PML-N leader and former finance minister, has claimed that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Jahangir Tareen group will support Hamza Shahbaz for Punjab Chief Minister.

After accepting the resignation of Usman Buzdar yesterday, Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar has convened a meeting of the Punjab Assembly today for the appointment of a new Chief Minister.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has nominated Chaudhry Pervez Elahi, leader of its ally PML-Q, as its candidate for the Chief Minister’s post, while PML-N has nominated Hamza Shahbaz as its candidate, which was also approved by party leader Nawaz Sharif.

Yesterday, Jahangir Tareen and Ishaq Dar had a meeting in a hotel in London for about two hours in which the political situation of the country including the Chief Ministership of Punjab was discussed.

Referring to the meeting, Ishaq Dar said in a tweet on social media that meaningful talks were held with Jahangir Tareen in which it was decided that Tareen group would support United Opposition candidate Hamza Shahbaz for Punjab Chief Minister.

Had fruitful final round of discussion with Mr Jehangir Khan Tareen.
Mutually concluded that #JKT_Group will support joint Opposition's candidate, Mr Hamza Shehbaz Sharif, for the slot of Chief Minister, Punjab.
Deeply appreciate support of #JKT and #JKT_Group

On the other hand, Monis Elahi also had a four-hour long meeting with the Tareen group after which he said that the final decision regarding the Chief Ministership would be taken on Saturday.

“Pervez Elahi will be the Chief Minister of Punjab. Whenever I met Jahangir Tareen, I always receive a positive message.” Monis claimed.
