KARACHI: The death anniversary of renowned poet Jaun Elia was observed on November 8, 2019 (Friday).
He was born in Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, on December 14 in 1931 and later migrated to Pakistan in 1957 and settled in Karachi for rest of his life. He was the brother of Rais Amrohvi, another great poet of Urdu. While, Indian film director Kamal Amrohi was his first cousin.
Jaun Elia’s unique writing style fascinates the readers and he will always be remembered for his greatest services to the Urdu language. His famous poetry collections include Shayed, Ya’ni, Gumaan, Lekan, Ramooz and Goya.
Jaun Elia was also awarded Presidential Pride of Performance for his literary services.
Apart from Urdu, could speak Arabic, English, Persian, Sanskrit and Hebrew as well.
